Paul, Brent and others,
Icom mods/upgrades/fixes for early production 775DSPs (mine purchased
in December 1996) performed at Icom's Bellevue facility:
(1) Rotary encoder replacement
My understanding is the subcontract manufacturer that provided the
original rotary encoders had not packed the proper type and/or amount
of lubricant in the encoder. Consequently, the encoder would stiffen
and eventually sieze up. The unit needs to be replaced.
(2) AGC mod per ARRL QST review
(3) VFO mod (don't recall the specifics)
(4) CW mod (don't recall the specifics)
(5) Display mod
On some units the display would dim during CW and/or RTTY transmission.
(6) Slight SSB audio distortion
May have been unique to my rig.
Again these were performed in May 1997 under warranty. Icom techs knew
exactly what the issues were and what needed to be done. Turnaround
time back then was less than a week.
Hope this helps.
