Paul,

My 775dsp has serial # 1489 and was purchased in December 1996...about
a year to 18 months after the rig was first introduced to the market.

For those concerned about serial number fetish, numbers associated with
the 775dsp could have some significance. The first one or two
production runs of the radio included a number of firmware and rotary
encoder problems that required the rigs to be returned to Icom for
upgrades and repairs (warehouse performed). I believe rigs with serial
number 1900 and higher were either corrected in Japan or from
production runs that incorporated the necessary changes. Hence, if
someone purchased a used 775dsp below serial number 1900 he/she should
inquire whether the owner has the paperwork demonstrating the upgrades
and repairs were performed.

Mine was returned to Icom in May 1997 to have 5 modes/upgrades/fixes
performed. Not inconsequential for a $3800 radio back then. Has
performed like a champ ever since. One great radio.
