Hi Doug,
Good comment - but the SDR technology is just as applicable to HF radio
systems as it is to wireless devices dependent on the public telecom
infrastructure. Only the frequency range and emission types differ.
Future radios will probably be repairable down to a board or module level,
as are computers nowadays. The BITE (built-in test equipment) will flash up
a malfunction alarm [DDC UNIT A1A2 FAILED], and the repairer will open the
case and change out the board. But operating will be just as much fun!
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Soon, there won't be any more "radio" in amateur radio. Guess I'd better
sign up for a computer maintenance course so I can work on my future "radio"
if it needs repair. But look on the bright side....won't have to worry
about those miserable ice storms 'cuz there won't be any antennas to ice up!
Ah, but what happens when the power goes off and there's no Internet, no
IRLP, no I-Link......hummmm????
