I set mine to 8 ms right after I got it, because it sounded much more
pleasing to me while monitoring on another receiver.
However I have always been partial to soft keying. I would probably use 16ms
if it was available.

Subject: [Icom] 756PRO CW Key Clicks
There has been a lot of talk lately about CW key clicks,
especially on the Yaesu 1000D and 1000MP lists.
Although I am an infrequent CW operator, I remembered
that my 756PRO had a CW "rise time" setting, and I thought I
would see what impact it had on clicks.
My measurements are located on the following page:
http://www.seed-solutions.com/gregordy/Amateur%20Radio/Experimentation/CWSha
pe.htm
The bottom line, for my radio, was that clicks were
substantially reduced by setting the rise time at 8 ms,
as opposed to the factory default of 4 ms.
