Hi Larry,
It would be interesting to research the reason for the receive muting when
you press SEND on the amplifier. With the 1N4004 in the line from HSEND to
the buffer, there is no sneak path. Could it b that pressing END switches
the T/R relays in the Alpha from receive to transmit, thus breaking the
receive signal path? This would suggest a sneak path through the buffer
circuit. A second 1N4004 in the line from the buffer to the keying jack of
the Alpha, with the cathode towards the buffer, will break that path.
