Hi,
Just a few thoughts on screwdriver antennas. Mounting, the easiest way to
mount them for me is a receiver type hitch mount. Cost about a 100 bucks
for the hitch install and the set up can be mounted to the rear or side of
the vehicle off of this mount. It can be permanent or removable and can be
set up as high as you want it to be. Second, tuning, I know several people
with an SWR meter on the dash, for fine tuning and markings on the
screwdriver housing for rough tuning. There are several commercial types
of controllers for 100+ dollars and several good homemade control units for
around 15 to 50 bucks for the parts. If you do not want to get out of the
vehicle to change bands, get a screwdriver. Check google for comparisons,
details and prices of screwdriver antennas. Don't forget to google the
antenna newsgroups for info or locations of info.
