[Icom] IC-746PRO vs IC-756PRO

Whew!! When I started this discussion I sure wasn't expecting this much
response.
Thanks to all for giving me the lowdown on the differences between the
746PRO
and the 756PRO. I have just a few comments about the 756 original. The test
reports published by QST for all the 756's do show the original to be better
in
most receiver specs than either of the PRO's. Some numbers are marginally
different
which might be normal sample differences but a few are significantly better.
Also,
unknown to me before I purchased one, the original's DSP is IF based. It
wasn't
mentioned in the owners manual but was in a product brochure that I acquired
later and is apparent on the schematic. Granted it is still a basic DSP
offering only
noise reduction and notch filtering but I find that both functions work
well, better
than any outboard audio DSPs I've used. Mine was one of the last built and
has not
suffered from any of the early model bugs. No "blue lines" yet. Anyway,
thanks again
to all. I think I will wait until Dayton just to see how low those prices
go.
