> HT, I have settled on an Icom T2H.
I too have had a similar affair with my HT. I have an IC-W32A.
I hike. I hike a lot. Over 50 miles so far this year. Mostly
in the mountains, but some desert too. I use a CamelBak military hawg
hydration system
http://www.camelbak.com/mil/cb_prod.cfm?catid=6&product_id=157 It holds
just short of a gallon of ice water if you fill it carefully. Notice the
flap on the upper side. I hang my HT from the slot that flap covers.
The HT is stock, but I have added the Comet BNC-24 antenna, I have two
BP-170 battery packs, and I use an HM-75 mic. The HM-75 allows a
considerable amount of control of the radio remotely. In this
configuration, I get plenty of performance, and all-day battery life. This
is a hard combination to beat. 2.5 watts ERP, and nearly 24 hours of life
with good NiMH rechargeable batteries.
The BP-170s are especially important to me because EVERY electronic item I
carry in my pack, GPS, Beacon strobe, Flashlight, CD player, and HT all run
on AA batteries. This has lightened the load a considerable amount, needing
only one set of spare batteries now.
Can you remember when the dream HT was a Motorola ht-220? Glad things have
gotten better, and lighter too.
