I have owned my 207h since 1996 considering its size and what it can do, its worth every penny I paid for, I use mine as a base rig. Yes the fan does make a bit of high noise but that won't affect the mic's audio performance what's so ever, I found by placing a book on top about the size of the radio dampens the sound some what, and keeps the radio still cool after long uses. Something that a lot of people who wrote in this news group forgot is the packet capabilities that this little beauty can do. That's what caught my eye about this radio in the first place. You can set the packet either 1200 or 9600 baud, not many other rigs in its class can do that or even have packet. So you can't monitor both bands at the same time, big deal, but you have packet instead. The squelch/attenuator works really well in high intermod, once passed the 12 o clock position the attenuator kicks in and it whips it all out... no trouble. The features such as scanning for sub-audible tones are great. The on board computer takes a lot of the guess work out of such things as + or - offset for repeater use, and makes it more enjoyable to use. The face plate is removable for theft purposes. I have almost all 150 channels programmed and the low numbers are for 2m and the high numbers for 70cm. I have set all my 70cm repeater freq's to skip, so when I set the radio to scan it skips all the 70cm freq's [there is never any activity on there anyways] and stays with the busy ones. Last but not least the manual is well laid out and easy to understand. You will have a lot of years worth of fun ahead of you with this little baby.
Good luck
