Ok, all good advice.  Now who was it that tried to do this?  Without any 
information this is no more helpful than the majority of scam alerts on 
usenet groups.  You haven't accused this person, you just put forth the 
deal went south when you offered to send to a local friend for the deal to 
be finished.  It would help others to have the e-mail addy and any 
names/aliases that were used.  What city was it in?  Who else have you 
contacted that had the same problem.  Was it with the same guy?  Was it in 
the same city?
