[Icom] IC-765 info needed

Make sure you have the correct D53.  It is located on the vertical board 
attached to the front panel, in the general area behind the VFO knob, if  I 
recall correctly. Just remove the top side screws, loosen the bottom side 
screws, and tilt the panel down to expose the area.

From your description, it sounds as though you "hit" the wrong diode, 
possibly one in the the rf stage.
