I am now the owner of an Icom 746 Pro, courtesy of an insurance settlement. I
have the UT-102 speech module installed. The volume on the speech seems awfully
low. it seems to be increased/decreased by turning the volume knob. On the Icom
756 I was able to select a high/low volume via the menus, some even had a dip
switch for this. How do I raise the volume for the 746?

I have also noticed the menu options for other functions do not appear to be in
any menu I am familiar with. Such as the auto tuner, memory address, data bus
baud rate and so forth. Where are they to be found in the menus?

I am using the Icom SM-8 desk mike with it. I have the mike gain at about 11
o'clock. I am getting reports of a hollow sound, like I am in a barrel. The
compression is not turned on. As far as I know, there is nothing turned on that
should be affecting the mike gain or causing this clipping. If I adjust the
mike
gain just so, it seems to be alright. But down more and I lack sufficient audio
drive and up it starts to sound off with that echo. I suspect something is
amiss, as the mike gain should not be that touchy.

The swr is 1.2 with the tuner off. Everything looks correct on the display. The
same mike works perfect on the Icom 756 right beside it.

What is going on here?

Thanks!
