I have just recently installed the FL52 in my IC-718. It works great but it's
a pain to install. Lots of disassembling of the radio's components. The
soldering was also a bit unnerving. I've built lots of kits but I'm a little
shy about taking a soldering iron to a manufactured radio.

I'd warn anyone attempting the project to be careful detaching the ribbon
cables. Don't get the idea the cables unplug from the board. I made that
mistake with my 706 and had to return the radio to ICOM to have it
reattached. The ribbon cables themselves simply come out of the plastic base
mounted on the board. I don't think the directions are clear enough on that
point.
