Hi Folks,
Well, the 761 lives somewhat now. 100 watts out on SSB, 40 W am and 40 FM,
I set the AM and FM to these levels.
Xtal X1 is bad and that is causing the lack of RTTY and CW.
So what was wrong, well,,,,, the last batch of parts got the RF board fixed
but my 60 year old eyes and hands put a diode in backwards. I bet I looked
at it 5 times and I still did it wrong.... Oh well, I admit it.
Now it is time to tackle the two other problems, the speech compressor does
not work at all and the tuner is a disaster, totally inop. I have to
replace the lytic caps in the DC to DC converter in the tuner.
One of the worm drive gears had fell off the tuner motor shaft and the
other one was jammed up but at least the motors are still good.....
Looks like the tuner will be another fun time.
Does anyone have a spare tuner for one? or the mounting shelf for the
internal PS unit. I found a PS for it.
Heck someday the 761 may really be fixed. On the positive side thanks to
Bill and Scott Malcom, I know a lot more about solid state than I did
before. I still think however, that I may just be too old to unlearn tubes
and learn these little transistors.
When I was working on brand C and D, if the voltage was within 20 to 25%
or a resistor was within 40% and the tube would light it would usually
work. Not so on these babies as I have found out..
Thanks for all the help.
