Jim,

I have been using a Heil GoldLine/HC5 with an IC-756Pro and Pro2, and have
never needed the preamp. I use the following settings:

Mic Gain: 11 to 12 o'clock
COMP: ON
Occupied bandwidth: MID (2.4 kHz @ -6dB) or WIDE (2.8 kHz @ -6 dB)
COMP control: 12 o'clock (for 3 ~ 5dB compression on voice peaks)
TX Bass: -2dB
TX Treble: +3dB

Oh, my rig is an IC-756PRO. Strange that I also have to use the Heil pre-amp
to get enough audio, just as I did with my IC-746.
