Hi gang,
Well, alignment wasn't it, for the most part, it was right on the money.
This is beginning to remind me of a Collins 75A2 that I worked on a few
years back. It was intermittent on receive and I changed every single part
that could possibly cause it and even opened up the IF cans and checked the
mica caps and the coils.
I called it "the Collins from Hell"
It would drop signal in several parts of the rig at the same time, it was
weird. It was the only rig I could never fix. I finally sold it as a parts
rig and the guy that bought it fixed it. He called me to tell me that he
started making resistance checks of the point to point wiring and found two
wires that were broken under the insulation. Very strange since Collins
used stranded wire.
So much for that, back to the Icom... It will put out about 50 watts on SSB
with the compressor off, with it on, nothing out. About 4 watts out in
RTTY, 0 in CW and 0 in AM.
The receiver is now hot and works great.
I now have output out of the RF unit going to the PA unit. So far the
voltages at the PA unit look good but this is where I am now checking.....
I know very little about solid state and now I know a little more of very
little...
I am used to working with much higher voltages like if the plate calls for
275 volts and it is 260 or 300 no big deal, it will still work fine. I
have found this is not so with SS, it has got to be right on. I could not
believe the difference 1/2 a volt makes..
