The 2700's had a problem with the PCB in the control head. It was too thin
and the constant pushing
of the Vol controls to switch bands causes breaks in connections. I had one
go bad on me the first week
I had it. HRO replaced the whole unit no questions asked. The second one I
had last several months
before it gave out. I sent that one back to Icom who fixed it.
If you can control the vol/sql from the button controls on the mike then I'd
say you have the same problem.
Check the PCB for bad traces around the vol control and edges.

I only wish Icom's were not Bata units. I have a 2700 that is a real dog.
Can't control volume or squelch. Just laying in a box and replaced with a
great Alinco DR-605. Had 706 which was nothing but an over priced Bata unit.
