[Icom] IC-751A vs. IC-765

For what its worth, I own a 751A and intend to keep it. Even spent $$ to
fix the caps and lithium battery. But, this past summer I acquired a
756RPOII. The first thing I did was put them both on the antenna switch to
see if they heard about the same. And they did. So, given my unscientific
test, the sensitivity of the 751A compares well with the best. Don't have
test equipment so no real measurement was done beyond observing S meters and
'listening'.

Many other things on the 756PROII are a big improvement (e.g., like a noise
blanker that works, DSP adjustable bandwidth, a BFO that can be adjusted,
and the list goes on) but it is my opinion the 751A can hear as good as the
best of rigs.

Don't know a thing about the 765 so won't comment on how the 751A compares
to it. But I bet it will be things other than sensitivity that would
convince you to switch.

I am thinking of upgrading from a 751A to a 765. The 751A is certainly a
nice rig, but my only rig for comparison was a Swan 700. I'd like to hear
some opinions and wisdom from the members of this list as to whether it's
worth the time and money to upgrade. My interests are DX and a little bit of
casual contesting. I am particularly interested in a comparison of receiver
performance. Will I really be able to tell the difference between the two
rigs? The 751A does not have an internal PS or tuner, but that's not a big
problem for me. It would be great if someone who has owned both rigs can
comment. Thanks.
