Hi Daniel,
I have done a couple IC-751A's and one IC-765. It's not to bad to do.
What I did to help with the change was to get a "Capacitor Checker" and
as you pull a Cap out check it's value and set the new one to the same
value and then install it. Do this one at a time and you will find that
when you get the rig back together you might need to adjust them slightly.
The first one I changed the cap's on I just changed them. Then when I
turned the rig on you wouldn't believe how the receiver sounded. It was
not good!
The next one I did. I used a Cap Checker and it sure helped...That is
the only suggestion that might help with the Cap's change...
Good Luck,
Boyd W6DSB

> I am about to do the famous repair for replacing the caps in the radio due
to garbled sound on LSB sometimes, until radio settles down and becomes
usefull.
> I just got the trimmers, caps & resistors from Icom in order to undertake
the repair but before doing so, given the fact is not a small undertaking, I
was wondering if anybody has done such repair and had some word of advice
for me in doing so.
> What concerns me most is changing the plastic trimmers inside the metal
case PLL and have the radio work afterwards, since I do not know how to
adjust those new trimmers. Is there a bird's eye view to go about this?.
> Any suggestion/recommendation regarding this or other issue in my 751A
repair, will be greatly appreciated, given the fact I am on the side of the
world and service for old radios is not easy to come by, oddly enough, you
can get any kind of new stuff & technology repaired.
> I have been living with this problem for a while now, always waiting for
the radio to settle down before using it, but it is becoming worse and very
annoying so I just have to do the Icom suggested fix I found on their site,
very common for these radios as I learned afterwards. Other than that, I am
very happy with my radio and would never think of selling it.
