I am about to do the famous repair for replacing the caps in the radio due to garbled sound on LSB sometimes, until radio settles down and becomes usefull.
I just got the trimmers, caps & resistors from Icom in order to undertake the repair but before doing so, given the fact is not a small undertaking, I was wondering if anybody has done such repair and had some word of advice for me in doing so.
What concerns me most is changing the plastic trimmers inside the metal case PLL and have the radio work afterwards, since I do not know how to adjust those new trimmers. Is there a bird's eye view to go about this?.
Any suggestion/recommendation regarding this or other issue in my 751A repair, will be greatly appreciated, given the fact I am on the side of the world and service for old radios is not easy to come by, oddly enough, you can get any kind of new stuff & technology repaired.
I have been living with this problem for a while now, always waiting for the radio to settle down before using it, but it is becoming worse and very annoying so I just have to do the Icom suggested fix I found on their site, very common for these radios as I learned afterwards. Other than that, I am very happy with my radio and would never think of selling it.
Best regards to all from the other side of the world.
Daniel Nieto.
