Yes, tests were done, and while the R-9000 is a good receiver with its own 
problems, the TT RX-340 runs circles around it for SWL, AM, dxing weak 
stations and plain good program listening.  I have a X-340 myself and it is 
built like a tank.  The government has been using the basic model, the RX-331 
without the normal receiver face for over a decade and their requirements are 
tough on battle ships.  It is bullet proof and gives adjustment of every 
parameter you can think of.  The write up are great.  It is not cheap, but 
there is nothing out there under $6-7000.00 that comes close.
