Dennis...The problem is, if the cable becomes intermittant while
transmitting your finals will take
a beating. That Rat shack junk is ok for CB's, but I cringe thinking about a
hundred or more watts going through it.
It has always been the most hated job of putting up new antennas, but its
one of those things that HAS to be done.
I've found some of the required tools for putting on new connectors are a
big Weller gun, good small scissors, a file, and a razor blade.
You need the gun 'cuz and iron will just make a mess, the braid has to be
cut with scissors...a knife or diagonal cutters will tear the strands out.
The holes where the shield wire comes through has to be filed to get the
solder to stick, and the outer sheath has to be cut with a razor blade.
Anything else will also make a mess.
