[Icom] pwr IC746

Hi Tony,

That is fine for continuous-carrier modes, but still does not address the
issue of the meter ballistics in SSB operation.

It is interesting to note that the only reason why licensing authorities
used to express the "legal limit" only in terms of DC power input to the PA
was because portable RF power meters of sufficient accuracy to be traceable
back to a standards body were unavailable at the time. One could hardly
expect the poor old R.I. to carry a calorimeter around in his kit.

Then along came Mr. Bird of Solon, Ohio and the rest (as they say) is
history.

Some administrations (such as the FCC) only specify RF output, whilst others
(e.g. Industry Canada) specify DC input and RF power output (RIC 2, Section
10).

Now, back to Icom...

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Hi,
I'll just read voltage and current draw for the final stage from the
front panel meter.
From this output power can be esimated. This is what I do. Unless radio
is smoking or
something, I don't care a few Watts more or less. Name of the game is
communicating.
