Larry - wish that was the case.  The rubber grip is removed, but there is
only a tension tightening screw under it.
I took the screw out completely in case it went into the encoder shaft - but
no such luck.

I found on my 765 that there is a set screw hidden under the rubber band
around the VFO knob. It can be removed easily by prying it up with a small
screwdriver & then the set screw is accessible. I suspect the 775 might be
the same way.
