You have good hearing!  I can hear my 7000 whistle, but no other guys 
that I know can.  My kids have noticed it...  

Anyway, I picked up a 7000 when they first came out and it's been making 
that whistle from time to time ever since.  I understand that it's the 
switching power supply.  It seems louder when running the radio on 12 
VDC and/or when the supply voltage is below normal.

Nothing to worry about!
