Isaac

I bought an IC - 751A new in 1987 and have had it ever since. Main problem
is that several plastic capacitors tend to fail and need to be replaced with
ceramic ones. Second main problem is that the lithium backup battery fails
and can be tricky to replace. Seems the RAM loses its contents if the
battery fails. I replaced the RAM with ROM using an after market offering
and it works great. It has excellent sensitivity. Also, I put a couple of
IR crystal filters and it seems very selective (250Hz for CW and 2.1Khz (?)
for SSB).

FYI - Check out some of the following 751A related urls - I have compiled
them over the last year.

Subject: [Icom] IC751A tech review and serial numbers

Hello Gurus,
I might have an opportunity to buy an IC751A as a backup radio .
I know this was a "project radio" that turned out to be a good one some time
after the regular 751 was discontinued.

What serial numbers/product years are known to be O.K \ Notorious?
Do late models carry larger serials?

Strange enough, I couldn't find any technical-lab-review about the 751A.

Thanks in advance, Isaac, 4Z4TL
