One other area of difference, especially if you are a dxer, Yaesu and
Kenwood offer stereo receive in some of their radios, Icom does not. If a
station is operating split, with the Kenwood and Yaesu you can listen to
his/her transmit freq in one ear and his/her listening freq in the other
ear. With Icom, you can balance between the two different frequencies, but
you can't split them between your ears. This typically is not an issue in
normal non-split operation. Otherwise they are all fine radios.

Hello Joel,
I have the pleasure to own the FT-1000D and the IC-756 ProII.
It is not easy to make a comparison, because both rigs are VERY different.
In my point of view they have one thing in common and that is that both
transceivers are excellent!
I will give it a try...
The 1000D is a very solid and very heavy radio. A real contestradio. With a
great receiver which has an excellent analogue sound, especially with Inrad
filters installed. The ergonomics are really fine; easy to operate with very
solid knobs and buttons. The heavy tuning knob is one of the best ever made
(just turn it and feel the difference). Very personal of course, but I find
the look of the 1000D the most beautiful of all rigs. The 1000D has two real
receivers inside. And it has 200 Watt output. The receiver of the 1000D
seems to be hard to copy. The specifications of this rig are very hard to
beat! I have only one objection and that is the speed of both tuning knobs;
it is too fast (10 kHz per rotation).
The ProII is a very innovating rig with a lot of modern features. The
display is a very strong point of this transceiver. So is the bandscope. The
choice of DSP-filters is more then you will need for average operations. It
is an excellent rig for digital modes! The twin passband tuning is a very
nice feature, together with the display (you see what you are doing with the
twin pbt). The menu is easy to read and very user friendly. It has 50 MHz.
And it is easy to carry. Learning more of the ProII; Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ is of
great help! Minor things are some of the tiny and fragile knobs and the more
digital sound of the receiver.
I use the 1000D for SSB, the ProII for digital modes and 50 MHz. For CW I
use the Mark V. I love all three this rigs for their chosen purpose.
73!
