Hello all,
I would like to address the issue of the Icom 775 compared to the 756 Pro.
I have had two 775 DSP's.. one with all the inrad filters and the other
with the Icom filters. I think that the 756 Pro is superior to them, and
every other Icom I have owned. The problem with the Pro is that there is
too much room for the proverbial, " cockpit error ! " It takes alot of "
working " with the Pro to make it do as you want. I am an ex-contester and
was highly impressed on the Pro with every modality except CW. I would hope
that the Pro II would have accomplished this. The front end on the Pro is
like a brick if used correctly. You can ask everyone of the Clipperton
Island hams this. Oh, on the size of the trancievers.. it would be nice to
have the Pro in a 775 size package, but I'll accept it anyway I can get it.
I am 52, and I have a software package to control the Pro. My JAWS (
synthesized line reader ), tells me everything else.
In keeping with the comparison of Yaesu to Icom's new generation, I have an
Ft-1000 Mark 5 with the inrad mod and I just don't think that the receiver
stacks up to the Pro's. I had two 1000D's that did a much better job then
the Mark 5. Being visually impaired, I can not give you subjective
information, but only what I hear when I am working the radio. I will admit
that on cw, the Mark V does a little better job... of course, this is only
one ham's opinion and all others I'm sure are welcome. Take care and g.b.
Kind regards,
Marty, W3QK
