John, didn't know you still had the Pro II? I have heard the same thing you
have heard but when using a Goldline I still use low compression  and feel
the audio sounds fine. I have never used a Heil HC-4 but have used the HC-5
and must do the same with it ...also found the same thing on the PRO and
plain 756. I have not noticed any hotter mic circuit on the Pro or Pro II
verses the plain 756. The Heil HMI works fine without compression as does
the new ICM mic but then they are electrets and should have decent output.

Personally, concerning Heil mic's I like the HMI on the Pro II.

I've heard that the Heil mics made for ICOM are not really needed for
the PROII because of more mic gain in the radio. Anyone want to comment
on that?
