[Icom] noisy

I bought my IC-751A new September 9, 1991. The rig has been performing
ever since but all these concerns finally got to me and I sent $60 to
Roberto on Monday. I figured I would like to turn my 751-A into a real
antique in the year 2021 that still had a working brain.
Roberto must read his e-mail every hour because I had an instant response
from him. By the way mailing a letter to Italy cost .80 cents.

I will report the of installation of Roberto's Eprom/Ram fter I receive
the little brain board. I figure the $60 is a small price to pay to keep
my little fingers from committing irreversible surgery on the battery
replacement.

My station consists of the 751-A, 765, and 746. So far my temptations on
the Pro2 are getting stronger and my resistance getting weaker and
weaker. I would like to hear from anyone who has the 746 and bought the
746Pro. Please send your comments to [email protected]

I echo the recent comment about the 746 being very noisy. Anyone who has
never had the earlier ICOM rigs really don't know what we mean by noisy.
My 751/751-A were exremely quiet compared to the 746. No compararison to
the 765 which is a 100 percent better receiver for reception. The 746
hurts my ears especially when you switch in the dsp.

I read the QST review and was not impressed to make the move. However as
parts for these older generation rigs become unavailable it may make
sense to move up the ladder.

a Ten Tec board member, W9EFL, whom I have lunch with every Tuesday, and
he said the main reason they ended production of the very popular Omni 6+
was because they could not get replacement chips. Hence the ORION is
born. The founder of Ten Tec/Electrovoice, K4FW, also attends the
luncheon. He is 95 years old and still active on 7.040 at 11 o'clock AM
EST.

See you in Dayton. If you see me say hi, I will be the guy with the
little HT in my shirt pocket.
