I had a problem similar to yours when I installed a 706MKIIG for a
Friend. The remote cord is getting interference and the solution was
toroids one at the control head and one at the radio. I have also got
away with coiling the remaining cord in to a apple sized coil and taping
it.

Subject: [Icom] Noise With 706MKIIG in 2001 Toyota Tacoma
I just completed the installation of a MKIIG/AH-2 combination in a 2001
Toyota Tacoma pickup. With the engine NOT turned on, I am getting a
loud
squealing noise on all bands. Also, when I turn the VFO dial, it sounds
like someone is rubbing sandpaper on a microphone. I have the control
head
mounted where the under-dash ashtray used to be and the radio is under
the
driver's seat. This stuff is present only with an antenna connected and
with various antennas, including the one on my tower hooked direct to
the
MKIIG. If the control head is mounted directly to the radio, there is
no
noise. Any ideas where this stuff may be coming from and how to
eliminate
it? Could it be being picked up by the cable that hooks the control
head to
the radio? If so, how would I keep it off there? Lots of questions and
I
haven't even turned the truck on yet...geesh!
