Gary,

The lines on the display are a known problem in early IC-756's (S/N < 2000).
Icom had received a bad batch of LCD display modules from the vendor, and was
replacing them under warranty.

You could try adjusting the brightness and contrast controls to reduce the
lines, but the definitive cure is replacement of the display module. I believe
that Icom charges $175 for this. You may be able to buy a new module from Icom
parts and install it yourself; you will also need the service manual.

Subject: [Icom] IC-756 scope

I own the original 756 model. About a year ago horizontal lines
began to appear across the entire width of the scope. The lines vary
in width from so thin you can barely see them to perhaps 1/32 of an
inch. At any given time there are about 10 to 15 of these lines. If
I leave the radio on for several days they diminish somewhat, both
in intensity and number. Otherwise, the rig functions just fine.
Does anyone know what is going on and what to do about it???
