That is incorrect according to the power response plots that I have made.
The radio reduces its power output rapidly with frequency above 2900 KHz
regardless of the Comp setting.

It may be that the "respected ham" meant that with his voice it was only
possible to generate much output power  above 2400 KHz by using heavy
compression to generate higher-frequency signal components, usually
distortion products.
