May I query "... established conventions ...".  The established convention 
on ICOM reflector has, for as long as I know, been the reply goes to the 
reflector.  You will make mistakes but you will learn by those mistakes.  I 
certainly did.  Then once you have learned, you appreciate the world much 
more as now you know more.
