Tony, the PRO receive audio is its Achilles Heel. The internal analog audio
system is way below par.

I bring out the receive audio from the ACC1 connector, run it through a
Behringer 802A mixer/eq into a power amp and large stereo speaker system.
The audio response of that setup is good down to 40 Hz where I can shake
the shack walls and furniture!

The point is that once you get the PRO audio out away from all the noise
and distortion, it loses all that "digital DSP" sound that everyone seems
to mention. I fail to see how any radio could sound better on high-fi SSB -
a la 14178 - than my PRO as it is set up.

BTW, I do the transmit audio the same way with a few extras along the way
to enhance things. The PRO mic audio circuitry is on a par with the audio
output circuitry - avoid it.
