In my opinion, no *small* speaker in a *small* enclosure can begin to do
justice to the low-frequency audio content of the PRO. I use a pair of 10"
woofers in large heavy wooden cabinets driven by a 65 watt/ch amplifier.
The audio output is unbelievable compared to what comes out of the SP-20,
the older, larger and (I think) better Icom speaker made for the IC-765.
Anything is better than the small internal speaker. The headphone audio
output is better, both in terms of where in the system it is derived (some
of the ills of the speaker channel are avoided) and because of the
opportunity to use headphones with good wide frequency response - in the
interests of hearing more than conventional "communications" audio. The
best audio output comes from taking receive audio from the ACC1 rear
connector and avoiding all of the PRO internal analog audio circuitry.
