[Icom] Icom vs FT-817?

Will be interesting to see how many FT-817s and the like will appear on t=
he used market in the next 2 -3 years as the cycle declines. Wonder if I=
com would delay the intro of a similar rig for that reason.

Hi, Ron, and everyone else,
That is a product I would buy. The FT-817 isn't a bad rig, and what it
does in so small a package is truly amazing. Having said that, I bet
Icom could do better. The FT-817 is quite subject to front end
overload, and it consumes batteries way too quickly. Icom has a proven
track record with small rigs (the IC-706/II/IIG) and I bet they'd do a
really fine job if they went into this market niche. Besides, the
FT-817 has been a great seller for Yaesu.
Only time will tell...
