The gist of Julius' comment on eHam.net re the PRO and PRO II being "setup
for only 60 watts output on SSB" is that the rigs are adjusted per the
service manual for 100 watts output key-down CW or RTTY. An audio signal
generator signal fed into the mic connector will indeed drive the output to
100 watts PEP SSB. 

The 60 watts comes in from the service technician's observation that *the
standard factory-supplied mic* will only drive the PROs to about 60 watts
SSB output.

Thus, the fact of the matter is that any limitation on power output in SSB
is a result of the inadequate output of the factory hand mic and not of any
problem with the radio or factory alignment and setup.

I operate my PRO exclusively with transmit audio being delivered to the
ACC1 connector and can readily obtain 100 watts output with a two-tone
input signal with no visible distortion of the signal at that level. As I
stated earlier, the usual mic connected to the mic connector will only show
analog meter peaks of around 40-60 watts at the most due to meter damping
and time lag. Actually, that reading is probably obtained only with
substantial compression and probably a somewhat high Mic Gain setting.

under PRO II. I'll have a look and see if I can unravel what is meant by
this 60 watt comment.
