First of all don't go by the meter indications in the ssb mode, I have
noticed that in the ssb mode the analog meter seems to be swamped down a
bit from the cw mode, With proper alc setting I am seeing about 75 watts
output on the multi-function meter but using a bird 83000a external
wattmeter shows 104w pep output. I am used to seeing a power output
meter on ssb read about 1/2 of the true power output. I have noticed on
the 706 as well as the yaesu ft100d rigs that power output shows 100
percent but if you check the alc settings you find your into overdrive
conditions on these rigs and reducing the mike gain results in about the
same reading on ssb as the pro and other rigs. use a high quality
external storage reading type meter to get the real story.
