Anecdotal evidence (one defective radio) is not evidence of poor QC. 
You mean to tell me Icom has never had an out of box failure?  Hmmm... 
I seem to remember buying one of those (an IC-505) and having to
exchange it.  The second new IC-505 I got was an excellent rig.  I don't
consider that one failure to be indicative of poor QC at the time.

There are thousands and thousands of very satisfied Omni VI+ owners out
there.  Had you exchanged your radio you might have been one of them.
