[Icom] 746 squelch or whatever

Try setting the AGC to the FAST position and see if the hang time gets
shorter.
If it does you probably have a more than normally sensitive radio, and =
you
might try to play with the RF GAIN setting or even the receiver's
attenuator. It doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong.

Lately, when tuned into a strong signal, my standard IC 746 will go
completely silent for a second or so when the signal stops. It is
almost
like the squelch engages for a second or so, and then it lets off
and begins
to act normally, until next time. The squelch setting has no effect
on this.
Obviously, I have pushed, twisted, poked or twiddled something to
cause
this. Does anyone know what it might have been? I am still learning
this
thing, and really appreciate any help you may give. Thanks in
advance.
