I've heard of one.  Kimberly Clark.  They make cotton balls.  Actually, any
brand will work.  There is a thread on the IC-746 Yahoo Groups where Chris,
N0UK used cotton balls in the 60MHz LO to improve stability in HSMS (meteor
scatter?).  Here is a link to his procedure:

The 746 uses a CR-283 rather than a CR-293, but the oscillator it replaces
may be just as accessible for you to try it out.  It costs almost nothing
and takes very little time to do it.

Does anyone know of a 3rd party replacement for Icom's over priced CR-293
High Stability Crystal unit?  The best price that I have found for the
CR-293 is $269.95 at Texas Towers.
