I have one of these HTs, and love it. The joystick is
a little tough to use at times, but still works great
when you get the hang of it. The only downside is the
battery life is kind of short, so here is what I did.
www.batteriesamerica.com sells a 6 AA cell case for
this radio (Icoms is only 3 cells). I bought 6
1800mah nimh batteries for it and filled up the case.
You cannot charge it using the Icom rapid charger, but
you can using the MAHA Universal Charger (also on sale
at Radio Shack). You just charge it using the
contacts where the battery joins to the radio. The
battery works for about a week between charges,
instead of for a couple of days. Wish this was out
when I had my T8, I might have never sold it. But
then, I like having 1.2 g for contests, and the
antenna is also shorter than the T81. Use mine every
day on the bike ride to work, and from the office.
