Gina and others,

A number of people have asked for the =93settings=94 for base and treble =
on the microphone for various transceivers and microphones.

Probably the best method is to get on the air with some friends locally a=
nd experiment.

Each transceiver, transmitter, and microphone pair may be expected to hav=
e differing responses to the same input. A major reason is the variances =
of all the components, because of manufacturing
tolerances. The audio path involves many components; from the microphone =
and it element; transmitter audio input; balanced modulator, the width, s=
teepness of the sides, and flatness of the
transmitter filter; and the placement of the suppressed carrier on the si=
de of the filter passband. This involves many tens of components.

The gain, frequency response, and flatness of the microphone all have som=
e variations. Electronic components, resistors, capacitors, inductors, be=
ads, and IC=92s are all purchased to a
specification that may include significant variances in the devices and s=
till be deemed acceptable.

The human voice is another major variable. Large variations occur between=
each individuals voice in the number of and range of frequency component=
s, and amplitudes of each of the various
frequency components.

The proper response to this is to make possible individual adjustments. T=
otal amplitude adjustment (mike gain) has nearly always been available. T=
oday manufactures have finally provided limited
adjustments for varying frequency response.

Because of the range of all the variables, I believe on the air experimen=
tation with friends who know your voice from eyeball QSO=92s is the best.=
You may desire two or three different settings.
One for good conditions where =93naturalness=94 is desired. A second and=
even possibly a third setting for better punch, crispness, or whatever y=
ou want to call it for communicating with varying
degrees of signal degradation.

Just my 2=A2 worth.

            Rolly W7DGX

PRO-Set-5 for the 756Pro.Bass and treble. What's the best?? Also looking=
for a service manual for the 756Pro or a copy.
