Hello all,
I have an Icom 756 (not pro) that I acquired from a friend, that has a =
dead RF section. No transmit/receive on any band. Display and front =
controls appear to function okay, but again, no rf operation. The unit =
was discovered damaged after a lightning hit that came in on the AC =
service. A visual inspection shows no physical damage anywhere on the =
unit. (looks clean and new on the inside)=20
I spent the $50 to get the service manual thinking it might help me in =
trying to diagnosis the problem, since I have seen other manuals have =
extensive troubleshooting sections. Unfortunately, that was not included =
in the 756 service manual.=20
Since I am a novice troubleshooting component problems in such a =
complex, modern rig, does anyone have any suggestions on where to start =
given the above situation? I realize that it might cost big $$$ to =
replace some of the boards in the unit, but since I was given the radio =
as a project at no cost, I can afford to spend some money on the repair. =
(but would rather do it myself as opposed to sending in the unit to =
Icom)
If anyone can point me to some good web resources, that would be =
appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Kurt
