Tom, I have been an Icom fan since the very first Inue 2M FM radio cane to
the US. My opinion is to be taken for just that.
First, do you need just HF coverage? If so, it would be hard to beat a nice
R71A (if you can find one in good shape)
If you need all band coverage get an R-9000. BIG $$$$$!!!!. Looks like a
IC-781. Has CRT display.
A more recent R-75 ot R-8500 will give you DSP and the like, but you get what
you pay for.
Just remember, overall HF sensitivity is governed by atmospheric and man-made
noise. Icom's noise blankers have never been the best.
Just by a 756 PRO 2 and use the reciever! Once you use a 'bandscope' you will
never want another radio without one.
I have a 756 PRO and absolutely love it!!!!!!!
