[Icom] DSP for the older IC275H????

Clete,
The patent-infringement problem hit Icom in 1989, and was not settled until
1991-92. I believe that a Japanese engineer who held the patent for that design
sued Icom for infringement. The Twin PBT design used on the IC-781 was not
affected; but the IC-751A, R-71, IC-735, and the IC-x75 family were. The new
IC-765 came out with IF shift only, not IF shift/PBT as per its predecessor, the
IC-761.
The "Data" control is a level adjustment for AFSK input via the rear-panel ACC1
socket. It replaced PBT.
In 1991-92, Icom settled the lawsuit, and re-released the IC-751A and IC-735
with PBT, but not the other affected radios.

My IC-275H is number 01086. It has the PBT knob, and it works. Did
they get into lawsuits after 01086? What was the DATA knob for?
Very interesting. Hey, I really do like my little radio, only thing is
I had to replace the dial lights. Did that a couple of weeks ago.
What a pain that was. Thank God I had the schematic, and that eack
plug and socket on the front panel was marked. 73 Clete
