The SM-8 has the capability of working with up to 2 radios, that's all. It also
includes channel up/down buttons and a radio select switch (for use when you
connect it to a second radio). To operate a second radio with the SM-8 you have
to acquire an optional second mic-to-radio cable and install it. The SM-6 is a
more basic version with simply a PTT. The SM-8 costs more than the SM-6 so
you'll have to weigh the features against your needs. There are other desk mics
on the market though I haven't tried any others. Perhaps someone will chime in
with more info on them like, the Pryme or others.
