Hi Gang
Well I had some free time and decided to modify my 706MKIIG and
756pro for T/R on all bands. The mod was surprising simple on both radios.
<http://www.mods.dk/index.htm> Both mods were completed in about 45 minutes
including disassembly and assemble.
No soldering gun was necessary. I took a scalpel and very gently
pushed on the diode(s) until it broke loose from the board. Flat solder
joints have very little strength. I have seen fleas bigger than these
diodes, be careful.
I lost all memory settings in the 706MKIIG. Took around two hours
to reprogram. You may want to write down all the settings before hand. I
had never used the radio on 2 meters and 440 before so I loaded up the
memory with approximately 40 frequencies for these two bands. I didn't
loose any thing in the 756pro. Both radios had the 60 meter band programmed
into memory and TX full power into a dummy load. Also, audio was excellent
on the 2 meter and 440 bands. I have heard of audio problems on these two
bands using the 706. I only use the factory supplied hand mikes with these
radios.
Does anyone know what part of the 60 meter band is going to be
assigned to what (CW, PSK31, RTTY, LSB)? I understand the frequency range
is 5.250 - 5.400 MHz. Is this correct?
