[Icom] IC-2710 overheated ... now, no transmit

Background:
This weekend was an MS150 bike ride. Temps were in the 90s. Temps inside the
support vehicles were obviously very high when they weren't moving with A/C
running.
The 2710 worked just fine (other than, as all 2710s, being wayyyyy too
sensitive to line voltage < 12.67V or so) all day on Saturday.
On Sunday...it worked fine from 0630 (beginning of the day) to about 0815.
At that time, I parked the vehicle, windows down (still got hot in there)
with the radio on so I could hear stuff from afar.
Jumped back in the car about 0915 and discovered I had virtually no transmit
(on the order of millwatts). Looking further, I observed that the external
fan was not running. I have it set for "always on" instead of "as needed".
Cranked up the A/C, made sure plenty of cool air got to the radio, but it
still couldn't transmit more than milliwatts, and obviously the fan is still
nonfunctional.
So my questions are:
1) Has this happened to any of you?
2) Is the radio so smart that it won't load up the PAs if the fan can't
possibly cool the thing down?
3) Have I sufficiently fried the internals by overheating them (the radio
was NOT transmitting during the hour the radio was parked)? If that's
happened to you, which parts did I get and what kind of repair tab
(parts mainly) am I looking at?
4) Am I way off base (I mean, about this radio)?
